Children and babies Course

 

 

This course is required by OFSTED for full day care settings, & approved by both the pre-school learning alliance & the N.C.M.A ( these are the two national bodies that have joined together to approve first aid training organisations for paediatric first aid course).
This course may be used to provide evidence for an N.V.Q. in child care & education & it is a legal requirement for nursery & pre-schools, child minders & organisations where children are cared for or take part in organised activities.

The course syllabus is specifically relevant to child care & covers dealing with emergencies and life saving skills, including unconsciousness, choking, head injuries and resuscitation. The course covers the essentials of first aid for the care of children & babies, including DRABC, choking, bleeding, and resuscitation, head injuries, epilepsy, allergic reaction, poisoning, and exposure to cold and heat, sickle cell, meningitis, anaphylaxis, and burns and scalds.


The course length is 12 contact hours, trainer assessed, competency is based on continual
assessment, and showing competency of C.P.R. management by use of first aid manikins


Competent candidates are awarded first aid certificates for paediatric care valid in the workplace for 3 years.
